Cosmetic

Dental Veneers San Diego

When do you need veneers?

Veneers are used in a variety of situations. Veneers are used for cosmetic restoration of teeth that are worn, discolored, chipped or crooked. Veneers can also be used to fill spaces, typically between the front teeth. Veneers can be used on a single tooth, matching the existing color of the other teeth, or they can be used to do a complete makeover giving you the “Hollywood smile” that you have always wanted.

In all cases the underlying tooth structure is required to be intact, or a crown will be recommended.

What’s involved in the veneer procedure?

Three appointments are typically needed for the veneer process.

At the first appointment the Dentist Pacific Beach dental staff will discuss with you what your goal is and make recommendations on the best way to achieve your goal. If veneers are determined to be a good choice for you a second appointment will be scheduled.

At the second appointment the teeth are prepared for veneer placement. Preparation of the tooth surface will vary depending on the condition of the existing tooth but will always involve removing a thin layer of the natural enamel. Once the tooth surface is prepared, molds are made and then sent to an offsite facility where the veneers are prepared. In typically three weeks time the third appointment will be made to bond the new veneers onto your existing teeth.

Dental Bonding San Diego

dental bonding san diego

Dental bonding is an alternative solution to repair chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth. The process requires less time than the application of porcelain veneers and, depending on how many teeth are being repaired, can usually be completed in one visit.

Bonding involves applying a composite resin (a while colored dental filling material) to a tooth to alter its appearance. Dental bonding can be used to improve the appearance of a defect on the surface of a tooth, to replace a chipped or broken tooth, or to repair damage caused by tooth decay. It can also be used to resurface the entire front side of a tooth to improve its cosmetic appearance.

Dental bonding, also known as composite or tooth bonding, is another way to fix cosmetic and structural imperfections in the teeth. When compared with other cosmetic dental procedures dental bonding can be relatively inexpensive. One disadvantage of dental bonding is that it can stain over time and in general isn’t as lasting or durable as other cosmetic dental procedures. However, if dental bonding chips or breaks it can usually be easily patched or repaired.

Prior to the procedure, Dr. Aryan, Dentist Pacific Beach, will select a shade of the resin that matches the color of your teeth. After the bonding material has been applied, the tooth will be shaped and polished to complement the size and finish of your surrounding teeth, leaving you with a beautiful new smile.

Tooth Colored Fillings San Diego

tooth colored fillings

San Diego Dentist says: White, tooth colored fillings are a great alternative to the old type silver-gray amalgam metal fillings of the past.

Tooth fillings are standard treatment for tooth caries, tooth decay or cavities. Filling a cavity prevents further decay to the tooth. If you need a filling, your dentist will advise you of your options and recommend the type of filling that is best for your situation.

Your options will depend on the location of the tooth, the size of the cavity, your preferences, esthetic results and cost. Below I’m discussing some of the different kinds of tooth fillings that are available today.

Dental fillings are usually made of dental amalgam or composite resin.

Amalgam is a silver-gray material made from silver alloyed with copper or other metals to make it more durable. Amalgam fillings are used primarily in molars and premolars.

Tooth-colored composite resin fillings are an esthetic alternative to the metal fillings of the past. Unlike traditional metal fillings containing mercury, tooth-colored fillings are formed with non-toxic composite resins and plastics. Composite resin fillings offer a better appearance because the color is similar to that of your teeth. They are used primarily in the front teeth, although it is possible to use them in all teeth.

San Diego dentist, Dr. Aryan states that “ White, tooth-colored fillings are popular because they are attractive, non-toxic and durable, and don’t leak toxins into your body like traditional amalgam fillings can. They look more natural than silver amalgam fillings.  Bonded directly to the tooth, the composite fillings are durable and strong. White, composite fillings are usually more expensive than silver, amalgam fillings and dental insurances typically don’t cover the additional cost.”

Gold inlay may be used if greater strength is needed, but this is more expensive.

The dentist will typically numb the area. You may receive a form of sedation dentistry to ensure your comfort.  He will remove the decayed material in the cavity and cleanse the area to remove bacteria and debris. He will fill the cavity with the recommended filling.

In many cases, tooth sensitivity caused by enamel loss will be significantly improved or completely gone after a dental filling. But sometimes, depending on the extent of tooth decay or damage, the tooth may require additional or alternative procedures, including dental crowns or a root canal.

Contact your San Diego dentist if you have a tooth ache or cavity and think you might need a tooth filling.

Porcelain Crowns San Diego

porcelain crowns san diegoPorcelain crowns, also referred to as caps, are restorations placed over a badly damaged or decayed tooth. Crowns can also be used to conceal an unsightly tooth or to hold a dental bridge in place. Porcelain crowns are made of ceramic and customized to match the natural color of your teeth. These crowns are extremely durable and, with proper dental hygiene, can last up to 40 years.

In comparison to porcelain veneers, dental crowns are stronger and more durable.  Dental crowns can be used to make the same type of major cosmetic changes for teeth that porcelain veneers can. However, unlike porcelain veneers which only cover over the front sides of teeth,  dental crowns cup over and encase the entire aspect of a tooth that lies above the gum line.

Clear Invisalign Aligners in San Diego

invisalign procedure san diegoInvisalign® is a revolutionary new technology for straightening teeth utilizing a series of custom made clear aligners.    Invisalign® is a great alternative to unsightly metal braces that most people don’t like. Invisalign® works by gradually moving the position of the teeth through a series of re-adjusted mouthpieces that are almost invisible.

Invisalign® is used when you want to straighten your teeth without the appearance of traditional brackets, bands and wires. Some of the benefits of Invisalign® are convenience, invisible, removable, comfortable, most poeple will not notice them.

Invisalign at San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach.

You have also probably heard of Invisalign in San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach dental office. Invisalign can do most of what braces can in straightening your teeth and giving you a brighter smile. However Invisalign braces has been known to treat much greater problems with your teeth, making stronger better aligners. The best part about Invisalign is that the “aligners” (the clear braces you put it in your mouth) are removable. You can take out these aligners when you need to brush your teeth or eat. This is a huge plus when you are thinking about the decision to get braces. Invisalign is also clear at San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach. Unfortunately the name is a little miss leading because the aligners and “buttons”(attached to your teeth to hold the aligners in place) are not invisible, however they are not as visible as the infamous “metal mouth” you dread. So point for visibility goes to Invisalign, but functionality is very similar.

Comparing prices of Braces and Invisalign at San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach.

Invisalign is relatively higher in price than traditional braces. Depending on how many “trays” (what the aligners are in), each tray is diagnosed specifically for your teeth and diagnosed in the treatment) you receive, will determine the price of your treatment. If you have a minor problem that needs fixing, Invisalign express is cheaper than traditional braces and can probably get the job done. Invisalign  Express ranges from $1,500-$4,000. The average cost of traditional braces is $5,000 and many insurance companies will cover a percentage. Invisalign ranges from $3,500-$8,000. Some insurances will cover a percentage of Invisalign cost as well depending on your coverage.

There is some great financing available at San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach for Invisalign braces as well other dental treatment. We have found that financing is reasonable, for under $100 a month.

Wear Ability

Invisalign wins in this category every time, because of the ability to remove the aligners. Getting food stuck in your teeth, your teeth staining, and gum problems are usually not an issue with Invisalign as they are with traditional braces. Some people have had problems with their teeth after using traditional braces, like cavities from stuck food, etc. . .

One thing you should remember is to get all of your cavities and cosmetic corrections done before you start your Invisaline treatment at San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach. It will help with the fluidity of the process. If you don’t you may have to stop treatment in the middle to get something fixed. In the category of comfort and usability Invisalign wins because you are still able to do those everyday things.

The Look

If you start Invisalign and it is difficult to talk or you sound like the Spleen from Mystery Men, don’t worry, usually people have difficulty talking in the first week because you salivate due to the foreign object in your mouth and it takes time to get used to the aligners. You will get used to them and talking with them in will get easier. Because Invisalign from San Diego Dentist Pacific Beach is visually appealing it is obvious that we choose clear non-visible braces vs. those metal brackets. You only have to tell people about your treatment if you choose to rather than the opening conversation being “How long do you have your braces for?” or “How long have you had those things?” It is not the best start to a conversation and one Invisalign can avoid.

The Invisalign® Procedure

The first step in the Invisalign®  process is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Aryan  at the Pacific Beach dental offices in San Diego to get an overview of how Invisalign aligners works, evaluate your situation and answer your questions. Then, a treatment plan will be created specifically for you. A set of impressions will be taken in the Dentist Pacific Beach dental office and sent to Invisalign®  where your aligners are created via precision computer mapping and design. After the aligners are returned to San Diego Dentist you will receive your aligners and review the treatment guidelines. You will then wear each set of aligners for two weeks, removing them to eat, brush and floss. Periodic appointments will be made to monitor your progress. Typical treatments last 15 months depending on each individuals need.

Dental Implants

dental implants san diegoDental implants are titanium tooth roots that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw. The implants bond with the bone over time and act as anchors for replacement teeth. After the implants are inserted, they need about three to six months to heal. At this time, artificial teeth are crafted to be placed on the implants.

Dr. Aryan, San Diego Dentist says that the  procedure for dental implants is lengthier than restorative procedures for bridges or dentures, but the results are more secure and longer lasting. Once completed, dental implants leave you with a confident and natural looking smile.

Inlays and Onlays

Find out what  you can expect when getting inlays and onlays at San Diego dentist in Pacific Beach, San Diego.

In the spectrum of dental procedures, inlays and onlays fall between crowns and fillings. Similar to crowns, inlays and onlays are created using CEREC Technology and then bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit. Inlays and onlays, however, do not completely cover the tooth, but correct a surface area closer to that of tooth-colored fillings. Unlike fillings, inlays and onlays strengthen the tooth structure, allowing the tooth to support 50 to 75 percent more chewing force than before treatment.

When the structure that needs to be replaced lies within the cusp tips of the tooth, an inlay is the preferred treatment. If the damaged area of the tooth is more extensive and covers one or more of the cusps, then an onlay is used to restore the structure. With proper maintenance and care, inlays and onlays can last up to 30 years.
